This book contains information from the 1810 and 1820 U.S. Census for Woodford County, Kentucky. Each census is recorded in two sections in this book. The first section for each year contains the census as it was recorded by the census taker. This shows where families lived in proximity to other families. In the second section the information is listed in alphabetical order by surname, creating an index. Both the 1810 and 1820 census contain first names only of the head of household. Other members of the household are recorded as number of individuals in various age groups by males and females for free whites. This book lists only the total number of both slaves and free persons of color in separate columns. Census totals for Woodford County in 1810 are 9,659; totals for 1820 are 12,207. This book contains information from the 1850 U.S. Census for Woodford County, Kentucky. The 1850 census is the first census to record the first names of all members of the household. Previous census records listed the first name of only the head of household. The census data in this book contains the following information for free whites: census page number; dwelling number; family number; first name and surname; age; sex; color; profession, occupation or trade (for males over age 15 only); value of real estate; place of birth (state, territory or country); attended school within the year. The abstracter has added information from her own research, such as: maiden names for many females, full names when only initials were used by the census taker, a calculated year of birth, and other "tidbits." 187 pages, more than 6,000 names, fully indexed by surname and first name, softbound, comb binding with vinyl overlay (1998).
